Personal Code for Company Directors and Owners in the UK

Under changes introduced by the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, the UK company register Companies House is introducing mandatory identity verification for company directors and people with significant control (PSC).

After completing the verification process, individuals receive a Personal Code — a unique code confirming that their identity has been verified with Companies House. This code will be used when appointing directors, submitting company filings, and confirming company information.

New directors will need to complete identity verification before appointment, while existing directors will need to verify their identity when submitting their next confirmation statement. Verification can be completed online or through an authorised agent.
