UK Introduces 30-Month Refugee Protection Reviews
The UK government has introduced a new refugee protection model. Under the new rules, people granted asylum will receive temporary protection for 30 months (2.5 years) instead of longer-term status.
After this period, the Home Office will review each case. If the person still needs protection, their status can be extended for another 30 months. If conditions in their home country are considered safe, they may be expected to return.
The change is part of broader reforms to the UK asylum system, shifting from permanent protection toward regular status reviews for refugees.
